UNDERĜATH--whose last three albums count combined sales in excess of one million copies--have entered the Billboard Top 200 Album chart at #8 with over 56,000 copies sold of their much-anticipated LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION album, available in regular and special editions. Marking the top rock debut for this week, LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION also reached #1 on Billboard's Top Christian albums chart and #5 on the Top Digital albums chart with over 9,476 digital downloads its first week. The special edition version of LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION includes: 10-page booklet, 40-minute making-of DVD with never before seen footage as well as interviews with the band, producers Adam Dutkiewicz, Matt Goldman and mixer David Bendeth. Epic and intimate, brutal and beautiful, catapulting them far beyond their previous works the new album marks their fourth disc to be released on Seattle indie Tooth & Nail/Solid State Records.
By the end of September, LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION will also be released in at least 16 additional countries around the world including: Canada, U.K., Ireland, Austria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico.
The Billboard chart debut comes on the heels of UNDERĜATH's 2006 gold-certified Define The Great Line. "We spent over two years working on this record," lead singer SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN explains. "We're really excited about how it turned out and can't wait to share it with everyone." By trusting their instincts, pushing their songcraft to the limit and meticulously perfecting it with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Matt Goldman (Copeland, The Chariot), alongside the skilled mixing of veteran David Bendeth, LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION is an epic achievement.
MTV2 premiered UNDERĜATH's striking new video--with animation and stop-motion photography--for their first single "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures" on "You Rock The Deuce" and "Headbanger's Ball." The band appeared on Fuse's "Steven's Untitled Rock Show" last week for the full hour. To view a portion of the interview visit: http://www.fuse.tv/ontv/shows/stevens-untitled-rock-show/. Check out the video--directed by Walter Robot (Modest Mouse "Missed the Boat")--here: http://headbangersblog.mtv.com/2008/08/29/video-premiere-underoaths-desperate-times-desperate-measures/. Meanwhile, the single is set to impact Modern Rock and Active Rock radio beginning today (September 16).
UNDERĜATH--lead vocalist SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, guitarist TIM MCTAGUE, bassist GRANT BRANDELL, drummer AARON GILLESPIE, keyboardist CHRISTOPHER DUDLEY and guitarist JAMES SMITH--have built one of the biggest metalcore followings in the world. And with LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION--a diverse musical display coupled with the input of six opinionated souls--the sky's the limit for UNDERĜATH.
Check out some of the early acclaim for LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION:
"...[LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION] the group's third album with its current lineup...sharp and sometimes frighteningly bleak."
--Jon Caramanica, NEW YORK TIMES, (September 4, 2008)
"Something to scream about...This metalcore band nearly imploded over frontman Spencer Chamberlain's substance-abuse problems, and its members put every bit of that turmoil into their fourth album [LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION]. Chamberlain's self-flagellating screams ('We will be the new ice age/We will be the new plague') make some of Separation as enjoyable as battling addiction, until drummer/second singer Aaron Gillespie's melodies break through like distant daylight, offering the possibility of hope and eventual redemption."
--Brian Mansfield, USA TODAY, September 2, 2008 (3-out-of-4 stars CD review)
"LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION is a stark, brutal record that once again pushes the band's creative boundaries while also showcasing the refinement that comes with age...With its lean song structures and 10-ton guitar riffs combined with Chamberlain's face-peeling vocals LOST...finds a way to push the envelope even further than Define The Great Line."

(COVER STORY, Fall Preview Issue, October 2008
"If one listen to 06's jarring Define the Great Line didn't prove this spiritualized sextet were bent on progressing, LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION will surely prove to the world--at least those who listen to their gospel-that UNDEROATH are one of the most powerful, passionate and creative bands in heavy music today. LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION is truly 2008's first perfect record, which is made all the more fascinating when it's realized that it was created out of the mistakes, shortcomings and misgivings of its members from throughout the past two years. Once again, UNDEROATH have elevated themselves to a level of their own."
--Scott Heisel, ALTERNATIVE PRESS (5-OUT-OF-5 CD REVIEW, September 2008)
"[The group's] renewed communication is audible throughout LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION, on which UNDEROATH balance both the brutal and the brainy sides of their sound like never before. The music is bruising but melodic, riff-based but full of complex instrumental textures."
--Mikael Wood, REVOLVER (Feature, October 2008)
"With LOST IN THE SEPARATION, Underoath have truly become heavy music's equivalent of Radiohead. Much like every hipster's favorite English band, Underoath's albums are equally enigmatic and atmospheric, transcending standard genre confines and venturing into rarely charted sonic territory. If 2006's Define The Great Line was Underoath's OK Computer-the record that broke the band to a mainstream audience-then LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION is Underoath's Kid A. In other words, even though it's a decided evolution from their last offering, LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION is a terse and haunting statement of a record that will affect fans for many years to come."
